The butterfly effect phenomenon tells us that a minor change in circumstances can cause a large change in outcome. The scientific concept is attributed to the mathematician and meteorologist Edward Lorenz who used it in a 1972 paper "Predictability: Does the Flap of a Butterfly's Wings in Brazil Set Off a Tornado in Texas?" The butterfly metaphor was first used by Ray Bradbury in 1952 in the short story “A Sound of Thunder”. A film with the same title was released in 2005 without a lot of success to the public.
